Our gorgeous Onyx Black DB9 Touchtronic was originally supplied by Grange Aston (Welwyn) Ltd in April 2005, but we purchased her from Stratstone Aston Martin in Amersham in October 2012 with just over 20,000 miles on the clock. This was our first Aston, so we were keen to join the AMOC and enter the Concours competitions. The first concours was in the Spring of 2013 at Greenwich in which she came 2nd in the Gaydon Class. We then took her on the Aston Martin Owners Club 100 Years of Aston Martin European Tour which included track sessions at Monza. Returning to the UK, we entered her into the Autumn Concours at Broughton Castle in the Gaydon Class where she came 1st. The dilemma then was, do we move up to the Elite Class the following year or call it a day! You guessed it….of course we stepped up! She was in some illustrious company at Ragley Hall and we were just pipped to the post for the 1st place due to a technicality regarding the build sheet. To come 2nd in the Elite Class is quite an achievement, especially as we had covered well over 3,000 miles in the past year, even encountering snow on our European tour! After that we retired her from the rigours of concours and I became a judge instead! In April 2017, she featured in the Autocar Magazine with Steve Cropley in a feature article about the ‘Changing of the Aston Guard’. Miss Aston as she is affectionately known has now covered 36,400 miles and is driven regularly in all weather conditions, the most recent being an enjoyable, if rather damp weekend, in South Wales with the Area 18 crowd at the end of last year. I try to keep her in concours condition but not at the expense of driving her.
