It was August 2019 and my DB9 was due its annual service so it was booked in to AM Nottingham. I'd been thinking of swapping it for a DBS for some time but hadn't found one to my liking, also I couldn't really decide whether to change the DB9 which I really loved, or keep it and buy a heritage model. I guess I'm not the first Aston owner to wrestle with similar thoughts.
Whenever I'm due a visit to the dealer I always check their website the evening before to see what's in stock. On this occasion, having confirmed there was no DBS I was able to sleep soundly knowing I wouldn't be under any self inflicted pressure the next morning.
On arrival we were greeted in the customary friendly fashion by the receptionist and as always offered coffee. Once the DB9 was checked in we were sat enjoying our coffees, when Gerald the sales Executive who had sold it to me 5 years earlier, came to say hello.
He was aware of my interest in a DBS from previous conversations so asked if I'd seen the one upstairs, to which I replied, I know there isn't one, I checked the website last night. Ah he says, this one has only just come in so hasn't made it on to the website yet, better still it's a special, a DBS Ultimate, number 10 of 100.
He was off to a meeting at Gaydon so couldn't join us in the showroom upstairs. We were both stunned when we saw it and couldn't quite believe how beautiful the colour was, taking on so many different hues in the morning sunshine.
I was instantly smitten, the rest as they say is history !
