I first ‘saw’ our Series 4 Lagonda, chassis 13562, in 2016 whilst sitting beside a swimming pool on a Greek island looking at car adverts on my iPad. I have always been a fan of the William Towns Lagonda. This one was being sold by Nicholas Mee so I knew it would be a quality car. By the time I came home it had been sold. I should have been quicker off the mark. However, a few days later it was back on the market as the original sale had fallen through. My wife and I immediately arranged a test drive and paid a deposit. Before we took delivery, another customer offered a substantial sum for us to ‘go away’. To me, that confirmed we had made the right decision. We have never regretted becoming custodians of this wonderful ‘bonkers’ car.
13562 began life as a factory demonstrator, first registered in August 1988 by Stratton Motor Company. Ownership passed between several businessmen and Stratton Motor Company owner, Roger Bennington, used it as his personal vehicle. The car came with a good history file but thanks to outstanding help from Roger the file is now extensive.
The car is in regular use and has been on many adventures around UK. In 2017 It was shortlisted for the Peoples Choice Award at the Beaulieu Simply Aston event. In 2018 It won the Best Modern Performance Car class at the Royal Automobile Club mid-summer ‘drive in’, beating a Ferrari F50! It is regularly used for ‘Sporting Bears’ and other driving charities and during lockdown when we couldn’t travel far it took us and our dog (thanks to a good rear seat protector) out for socially distanced picnics – often in unusual locations such as the car park at the RAC!
