Sir David Brown’s boardroom chair from when he was appointed managing director of David Brown & Sons (Huddersfield) Ltd, the family gear business, in 1931. Made by Waring & Gillow, who also supplied the oak panelling for the company’s offices at Park Works in Huddersfield, the chair has special risers in the legs so that David, who was short in stature, sat at the same height as the other board members. The chair, now in my possession, is shown with company photograph albums from the era – the corporate colour was Hunting Pink. The black & white image, from a family album, shows Sir David with the chair in his office at Park Works in June 1935. In 1939, the chair moved to the boardroom at the David Brown tractor factory at Meltham Mills.
