In 1977, this was The Car of the Future; not just a flimsy concept, a strong statement of intent by the a company on its knees less than three years before. Aston Martin really were going to build a car that appeared to have come straight from a Gerry Anderson show. I was only a kid with almost no interest is cars but nothing else ever has had such a profound effect on my life and the path that I have taken. It had everything, futuristic styling, exclusivity, electronics, performance and the wonderful Aston Martin cachet. The wedge shaped Lagonda was just what the company needed and deposits rolled in especially from customers in the Middle East. There appeared almost no hope of mere mortals ever owning one such was the price tag and very limited supply. But I know then, I would have a Lagonda, whatever I had to do to get one. In the inside cover of every school exercise book I had doodles of this car. I still draw the same doodle now.
I bought one few years ago, it’s almost the same colour as this Minichamps 1:43rd scale model although this example appears to be an earlier car than mine.
I give you the Aston Martin Lagonda, yesterday’s Car of the Future.
