December 2016 - I became a new father and wanted to buy something special that I could enjoy with, and eventually pass down to my son. Knowing that the days of the NA V12 Aston were numbered, the choice for me could only be the Dogleg Manual V12 Vantage S Roadster. As production of this car would soon cease, I put a deposit down in March 2017 on what would be the limited edition 595bhp Vantage AMR V12. Limited to just 100 cars worldwide, only 29 were roadsters and of them only 20 were specified with the manual transmission.
14th June 2017, Aston Martin officially announced the Vantage AMR, and on the 18th June 2017 the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE Pro won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
July 2017, I decided to spend my birthday up at the factory working with Q on the bespoke specifications of the car. An unforgettable day as Marek Reichman dropped in for lunch, and took us on a private tour of the design studio which included life size models of Zagato Speedster and New Vantage.
Back at Gaydon on the 23rd February 2018, it was time for our in-build tour. Together with my father, we toured the factory with the very knowledgeable Nick Duckworth. We saw our car being built, spoke to the lovely people building our car, and wrote a special message for our son on the back of the leather seat covers.
19th May 2018 - Handover day, and just like every other Aston owner, I didn’t sleep much the night before. I dragged my wife, son, and parents along for this truly special occasion.
The wildcard photo I’ve chosen is of my son on handover day sitting in “his” new Aston Martin. And look at the state of his shoes!!
