My passion for Aston Martins started a long time ago with a certain Corgi toy – the James Bond DB5. After many happy years driving TVRs, in 2011 I bought a 2008 Vantage. This Vantage was replaced a few years later by a 2014 model in Cobalt blue, and this this was more driver focused. I really liked and enjoyed this car but after 5 years I was thinking should I change it or retain it as a keeper. Changing it for new Vantage was not an option (great car - but not sure about the looks) so maybe a used V12 or another V8 Vantage. I decided to investigate the AMR V8 version – the last of the V8s and there were a few available with low miles. I spoke to Martin at our preferred dealership and set him a challenge to find a low mileage manual Coupe V8 AMR that was “as new”. I expected the search to last at least a couple of weeks but after a couple of days he offered me an un-registered car - ie brand new with all the right options. There followed lots of pictures and negotiations – checked with the boss and she really liked the colour scheme so deal done ! Body colour is Zaffre Blue (Q colour) and it is just stunning in the sunshine. The car was registered March 2019 and we believe it is the last V8 manual Vantage to be registered. (Anyone know how to check or verify ?) As the dealer is 200 miles away the drive there in the 2014 car, followed by the 200 mile drive home in the AMR provided a very good back to back comparison. The carbon fibre lightweight seats look uncomfortable, there is no electric lumber adjustment or heated seats BUT they are fantastic and superior in every way to the standard seat. The exhaust is louder – and sounds great, the carbon and alcantara interior make the cabin even more special. Maybe this Vantage will be a keeper………..
