Aston Martin Owners Club
My first Aston was a Vanquish, a non-S bought in early 2015, having run older sports cars for the weekends and German stuff for business. I changed to the S in January 2017. My wife much preferred the non S as it was ‘less jiggly’. This preference was reinforced when an abs sensor failed on our way to the Silverstone Classic, that was seriously jiggly. The ignominy of being low loaded home obviously didn’t help.
However, since then it has behaved itself perfectly. I’m the 3rd owner of the S, a standard car in Titanium silver with Phantom interior and still running on Yokahamas, it’s covered 16300 miles, 3000 in my ownership.
Even after owning a Vanquish for 5 years, the thrill of it hasn’t diminished, driving is still a special event. For me it’s not casual fun like an air cooled 911 or a Morgan but a much more serious and stylish affair. The car has to be pristine[-ish], I dress for the occasion, shave and try to look casual [probably more of a superior smirk ].
Our outings are mostly Amoc events, classic racing and we love Hampton Court Concourse. Through the Vanquish we’ve had a lot of fun, been to interesting places and made friends with people who without the car, we wouldn’t have met.
I entered my first concourse in Autumn 2019 at Holkham. Unfortunately en-route, I took a wrong turn and drove down a very wet muddy lane. However, after a herculean effort in pouring rain, with the help of a fellow owner, Warren, the car looked pretty good. My wife agreed, when she arrived, dry, 2 hours later with coffee. And so did the judges, we were awarded 3rd place [out of 3 ].
Richard, I’ve always preferred the 1st generation Vanquish S. A beautifully presented car. Look forward to seeing it in the flesh!
Looks just as lovely as it did at Donnington, Autumn 2019 and of course that brilliant Lancaster day. Glad mine sneaked onto that picture. It's going straight into my owners logbook. Good luck Richard.
